Brinda Somaya is an architect and an urban conservationist. She received an honorary doctorate (2012) from Smith College, where she also completed her MA (1973). She specialises in master planning and building design and her work encompasses rebuilding and, at times, reinventing corporate, industrial, and institutional campuses. She received the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Award (2004) for her restoration of St. Thomas Cathedral (Mumbai) and the Indian Institute of Architects’ Baburao Mhatre Gold Medal for Lifetime Achievement (2014). In 2015, she was honoured as Distinguished Professor by Indian Education Society’s College of Architecture (IES), Mumbai.
